A Pig's Tale: Pig Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Leader.

Although not quite at the identical stature as granting clemency to Thanksgiving turkeys, but the Miami-Dade County mayor experienced a presidential-style act this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“This pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued from the start of the beginning of a second term in office.

“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” she went on. “I hope she experiences a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.”

The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the region’s Hispanic tradition of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The swine, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people shouting “six-seven” – inspired by a hip-hop line – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently declared “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.

A Peaceful Retirement

Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the ceremony's official statement.

“The pig pardon has become a cherished method to kick off the holiday season,” said the event host, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It represents the character of Miami: happy, multicultural, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Annually, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”

Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and cafecito as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
