🔗 Share this article Patrick Bamford Signs With Sheffield United Despite Leading Abusive Chants About Coach Chris Wilder Patrick Bamford is now a member of the Championship side just seven months following instigating derogatory chants directed at their manager, Chris Wilder. This experienced forward, without a club since leaving Leeds United, has signed a deal joining the Championship club in difficulty until January. Bamford's lengthy spell at Elland Road finished through agreement this past summer. Among Bamford’s last memorable actions while at Leeds was to lead offensive chants about Wilder amid Leeds' success festivities this spring. Now, the one-cap England player will be playing under Wilder as the Blades’ manager seeks to rescue the team he loves out of the drop zone. Past History Involving the Striker & Wilder Both men had previous conflict before Leeds moved up to the top flight the previous campaign while Sheffield United were defeated in the promotion decider to Sunderland. The manager called the forward as a "muppet" when the roles were reversed in 2018-19 and Sheffield United won direct promotion while Leeds United fell short in the playoffs. Reconciliation & Moving Forward All appears has been resolved with United, the league's least productive attack, in desperate need of improvement up front and Bamford aiming to resurrect his career. The Wilder chant went viral this spring. An apologetic Patrick along with Leeds boss, Daniel Farke, phoned Wilder the following day. Chris Wilder commented back then: “Had a conversation with Patrick recently and I have no issue whatsoever with it. I'm uncertain about the words used from a fellow pro! But I appreciated and respected him calling me. “We had a short while and similarly I spoke to Daniel too and we had a half-hour chat together and he's a great person, a top guy. When I was playing we would give it and take it and that is an integral part of football across all levels, even on a Sunday morning. I have no problem at all. I am cool with it and I said that to Pat.” Recent Playing Challenges The forward made 18 games for Leeds last season but the former Forest, Chelsea FC and Boro player has struggled with fitness issues over the past few seasons.
