One of the original creators of the famous ice cream brand Ben & Jerry's has stated how parent company the multinational conglomerate stopped the launch of a new pro-Palestinian ice cream flavor.

The entrepreneur, that established the company with his partner, revealed how he will independently develop this new flavor as part of a personal series showcasing causes Ben & Jerry's has been barred from addressing publicly.

Ongoing Dispute Between Creators and Corporate Owner

The recent development intensifies the ongoing conflict between the world-famous ice cream maker and its corporate parent, the British consumer goods giant that acquired the ice cream brand for over two decades.

The co-founders maintain that the parent company along with its ice cream arm Magnum improperly prevented their company from "maintaining its activist principles".

Watermelon Flavor becoming an Emblem of Support

Mr. Cohen announced through an Instagram video that he is creating a new watermelon-based frozen dessert, asking for consumer ideas regarding naming options and additional components.

“I'm accomplishing what they were prevented from doing,” the founder commented in his kitchen. “I'm making a watermelon-flavored ice cream that advocates for lasting ceasefire in Palestine while demanding repairing the damage that occurred in the region.”

This particular fruit has become an emblem of solidarity with Palestinians because of its colors, that closely resemble the colors in the Palestinian flag – the distinctive four-color pattern.

Previous Social Engagement plus Recent Developments

Several years ago, the ice cream company refused to sell its products in territories occupied by Israel, leading to Unilever transferring the Israeli operation over to a local licensee, thus allowing continued sales in disputed territories.

This upcoming product line is being developed under Ben's Best, the socially conscious dessert company which was first created in 2016 to support former political contender Bernie Sanders with the product "Bernie's Return".

Management Shifts and Upcoming Plans

The founder indicated how he plans to create additional ice cream flavors that address issues which Ben & Jerry's was prevented from speaking about openly by Unilever.

This development follows co-founder Jerry Greenfield resigned from the company in September, after many years of involvement, mentioning worries regarding how its independence had been compromised after Unilever's decision to curb their advocacy work.

At that time, Ben Cohen stated how “My partner has strong compassion and the ongoing dispute with our parent company was deeply distressing him."

"My heart leads me to keep working inside the company to advocate for corporate autonomy ensuring that the company can achieve the social mission, the values which established its foundation while upholding for decades," he explained to media outlets.
